I am looking to buy a camera that runs off of AA batteries. That is my first and only main concern.

The reason for this is that I will be traveling for a year, living out of a backpack, and not always have a wall to plug into and charge up.

I want a camera with full Auto controls. I currently shoot with a Canon G5 and love the photo quality I get from it (still better than what a lot of people i know shoot with, with newer models.)

So, I need a digital camera that runs off of AA batteries. If there's a pack that lets me power my G5 with AA that would be great too, but -

So I'm thinking of the XS10is because it has the auto settings, a good zoom (not that i'm looking for one, mind you) and the swivel screen. Which I love on my G5 and is always great for solo travelers.

But, I'm concerned about the picture quality of the XS10is? I've heard terrible things. Will it be worse than my G5? And if so, why? Shouldn't these last five years, have improved quality?

Also - if there is a better camera for my needs, please let me know.

Thanks a lot!

You might wanna look into the A... serie from Canon, that serie runs on AA's.

With the G5 you have a good camera, for the price of a new camera you can buy yourself some spare batteries for that one.
Usualy the batteries last a long time if you don't use your screen a lot for reviewing your pictures.

I know, I'm really quite torn about buying batteries. But I've found I go through about one battery a day, shooting about three hundred pictures. I've thought about extra batteries, but then what happens when I find myself in the middle of nowhere for a week? I'll be bringing both cameras with me. Three probably (an old digital kodak P+S) but I don't want to take any chances.
