Finally things are getting interesting in the bug and wild world. Took my 28-105 and my Kenko Tubes out this morning for an adventure.

Wild Snapdragon -- these little flowers are only about 1/4 of an inch wide.

I've got to get me a set of these tubes. Well done.

Thanks Monnie. They are fun to play with, but a real learning curve. I find that using them on a zoom lens works best and I use the zoom to focus (I manually focus... mine will auto focus but it's slow, I can do it faster myself). Also, you need good light. I had to use my on-camera flash with these this morning because there is no sun out and if you don't have enough light to get faster shutter speed and smaller aperature, they are blurry (of course I don't use a tripod so that's working against me as well).
Get a set, you'll enjoy them!

Excellent shots Linda, the first and the third do it for me, I love the water on the fly's eyes. Great composition on these too

Thanks Ed. Appreciate the comment. I've been working hard at getting better composition with these macro shots! Glad to hear I may be going in the right direction.

You've caught on to those Kenko tubes very quickly, Linda! Good job. Yes, light is scarce when you're shooting macro with tubes. Flash (even multiple flash) is a great solution.

Thanks Bruce. I've not used them as much as I would have liked to, but now that more things are out and around and in the grass, etc.. I will take them out more often. I did learn quickly by looking at what others were doing, about getting more focus. Since I just can't seem to figure out the stacking thing, I figured going with a smaller aperture would get more stuff in focus. Guess it's working :) Still have a lot to learn with them!

Dang, you really don't realize how ugly flies are until you're up close!

Great macros. Those 1/4 inch flowers are about 4 inches on my screen. And I never want to meet a fly that big.

Very good macro shots. The 3rd shot is outstanding, good sharpness and enough DOF to cover.
