Looking for an alternative photo editing software package that will do just about everything you need an editing program to do…and then some? How about a program that has the look and feel of Photoshop at about 1/20th of the price? Serif (www.serif.com)has a feature rich, easy to use software package called PhotoPlus 8.0. (www.serif.com/photoplus/photoplus8/) This photo editing program, a companion disk with tutorials, fills, artwork, additional brushes and more, and the manual sells for a pretty good price of $99.99 plus shipping. I wrote in another post that we were contacting Serif to see what we could come up with for our Members. Serif Came though!

Serif has made available to Photozo members this very same package for the special price of $19.99 plus shipping! I, as I have said in previous postings, like this program and at this price you might want to give it a try. Also check out their web site and their forums. There is a community feel and customer service that is evident. I have posted questions on their member forums and had accurate answers within minutes…from users that like to hang out and solve other users problems…Gee…kinda reminds me of Photozo!

Here is what you have to do to get this price:

1) you have to call Serif Sales @ (800) 557-3743, 8:00 am - 10:00 pm, Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 6:00 pm, Saturday, EST.

2) You have to tell them that you are a member of the PHOTOZO Web Site with your username and mention Joe Ossai. Joe is the member of Serif’s staff that made this generous offer.

There you have it…a $20.00 alternative to the $600.00 Photoshop. Will it do anything and everything that Photoshop does…No, but it will do just about anything you might want to do with a photo and then some!!!

From the Photozo Staff

That's a great deal! Thanks for your efforts, John! :thumb: This is really a great thing for our members.

For those who want to test it out before buy at the special price, you may try out the free version (http://www.freeserifsoftware.com/serif/ph/ph5/index.asp) first. I think it's well worth the money. On the web site, they did not list all the essential functions such as level, curve and sharpen, etc.

Something that I should have noted in the original post is that this offer works most economically for members on the North American continent. I have asked Serif USA about that and they have a solution for our other worldwide members.

You will need to fax your order. :-( The shipping cost will be $12.95 and they should fax their order with credit card, shipping address and phone number to 603 886 3537. Also include mention of your Photozo membership and username.

Do you know if I can do spot color on black & whites with this software? I normally handpaint my b/w's but would love a program that will look just as good. I do lots of babies and children. Please email responses to donna_q@yahoo.com.

Hi dquarles

Yes it will as long as it is not a grayscale image. The image if grayscale would need to be converted to a color image file, though still black and white. Then it can be hand colored with many differant brushes and techniques. In this regard PhotoPlus handles much like Photoshop

Hope that help....If not or I'm off track with what you are asking let us know :-D

Sure did Mike...very unusual and incredible. Drove the dog bonkers and forced my wife and I out of the hot tub sooner then we were planning.

Hi John,
Yes, PhotoPlus 8 is a very nice program. I've used it since it first came out.

PS: one heck of a storm wasn't it? I'm up in Lincoln, just south of Marysville. Had hubby and I running out of the hot tub too John. Oh,us Californians and our hot tubs. lol

Haha Sherry

We are so decadent aren't we...our entertaining seems to revolve around our kitchen and the hot tub under the night sky, but perhaps I share too much  . Speaking of decadence, my ex's family is in lincoln and she grew up there. Very nice town...although it sure is growing. I have lived in Wheatland, Yuba city and Marysville at one time or another so I am very familar with your part of the world. Say is that little Saloon, the Willows, still operating on the south side of town. It was just on the outskirts on 65 heading to Sac.

BTW...very OT, Arnold or Cruz? ROFL :bang:

This is a fantastic deal! I already have several photo editing programs like PS, PSP, and PhotoImpact. Funny thing is I'm almost tempted to purchase this one too, because I am a photo junkie!!! Since my budget is maxed out I must refrain.
I still appreciate the availability though. Terrific benefit of membership! Thanks!!

Hi Grayce

Thanks for the kind words. It is a pretty good deal...but if you have PS and the others you mentioned you really have all you need. And if we haven't already said so...Welcome to Photozo. Our community is really what makes us....well, us :-D . As you go though all of the various forums you get a sense of the warmth, personality, sense of adventure and most of all a willingness to share our knowledge as we go through this digital photography journey. Look forward to seeing you here and your images when you are ready to share. ;-)

I was just wondering if there is a time limit on this offer? I just bought my G3 2weeks ago and I'm currently using a 60 day tiral version of paint shop pro. I find PSP to be very easy to use and intuitive. Can any one comment on how these two would compare?
Thanks in advance

Hi Tbel,

Why would you not be using the copy of Photoshop 5.5LE that came with the camera??

Cheers,
Stuart

Stuart,
I'm sure photoshop is very powerfull, but I found it difficult to use. Never quite sure where to look for anything. I just don't want to spend the time tying to get used to the software. I'd rather spend it learning to edit photos. Maybe I didn't give it a fair chance but it just felt clumsy to use.
