Straight up, I am a photography NOOB. I just purchased my first set of lights and am confused as to what is the purpose of my umbrellas and how to use them! I have tested them out and I seem to be using them wrong.
I purchased the Alien Bees Digibee package which came with 2 umbrellas: One translucent white shoot thru umbrella, and one silver white umbrella.
How do I use these properly!?

Welcome to the Photozo, Erin! You caught us in the middle of "moving," but I see our Search button (above) works. You can click on itd and type in Studio Lighting, or whatever you're interested in and find a wealth of information. One of the best threads there is this one about lighting the head shot:

You've come to a wonderful forum where you'll find the answer to most of your photographic questions. None of us knows everything, but together I hope you'll find us very helpful. Soon you'll find you've learned enough to help others, too.

hi erin, feel free to call alien bees also, they have been very helpful with customer service in the past, but it is confusing stuff, don't get discouraged.

Here is another question what type of camera do you have ? Next question can you hook your lights to it without having to have a hot shoe adapter.
