Dolphins at Play - 1/500th @ F/8, Eos 10D with 28-105 USM II - shot on 9/6/03

Free Flying Macaw - 1/125th @ F/4, Eos 10D with EF 50mm F/1.8 II - shot on 10/6/03 (rushed these during my lunch hour - will reshoot (AGAIN) on the weekend if I get a chance... it's a pain reshooting successful shots for a challenge!)

I felt this one suggested more than showed a sense of motion, although there are some signs of showing.

This one fits the challenge as well, I think:

I took this photo years ago (1980?) in Amsterdam with an old rollei 35 camera. The shutterspeed must be low 1/8 or 1/16 sec. Due to scan from an analogue black and white photo, there is a lost of resolution, but the motion is clear i think.

This is a more serious picture of movement. One I guess most people try sometime in their life. Moving water. This is a shot of Adelong Falls where gold mining was plentiful in the late 1800 early 1900's

This shot was taken last weekend of a friend in Melbourne. Taken at night on a 6 second exposure leaning on the verandah rail hence the small amount of camera movement. Not a perfect shot but a good fun picture I think.

Singhalese Dancer

Taken during a multicultural festival in Verona.
Differently from european dances, where people mostly moves their legs, you can see that dancers coming from other traditions use the upper part of the body a lot more. This makes easyer to capture some particular expression of the dancers.

I belong to a local Corvette Club and we took our cars to the Dyno today to see how well our performance mods have been doing. I took several pictures of our cars on the Dyno spinning up. The one below is actually a 2004 Nissan 350Z. I did some post manipulation by selecting all of the region outside of the wheel and tire and softening that area, then I desaturated that area to get the greyscale effect outside of the tire. The tire motion is all real and untouched. Can't hardly see any of the wheel spokes, the car was probably doing 130mph on the Dyno.

Doh, Changed out my first entry, and put a second there two, but editing a previous post doesn't bring it to the top of the messages... so I added this - c'mon gang, this challenge closes on Sunday... let's get it full!!

Wow, Stuart, that's an amazing photo of the macaw.

now, I'm no expert on bird wildlife, but I don't think macaws are native to city parks in Adelaide !

so whats the story with the Free Flying Macaw ?

Stuart Elflett
06-10-2003, 10:37 PM
No, it's at Adelaide Zoo - they bring them out daily at 1.30 to fly over the heads of the crowd in the picnic area... I posted a much better image from a couple of months back somewhere here, and will probably reshoot better when I haven't just rushed in on a lunch break - but it was reasonable weather and the weekend might be wet... :-( (Luckily I'm a zoo member so it doesn't cost to run in and out of the zoo on a whim... :-) )

Cheers,
Stuart

I think Oldenburgs stage dancer and Lesley's batting practice both have some lovely movement to them, great timing to keep everything else so sharp whilst the little bit of blur to give the feel of movement... I've only really succeeded once in getting a really crisp shot, with motion in it, like this, so my hat is off to both of you...

Cheers,
Stuart

Boy, I completely agree with Stuarts comments on Oldenburgs stage dancer and Leslie's batting practice. They were two of my favorites in the challenge. The blurring of her arm and the intensity and sweat on her face is stunning. Leslie's shot was spectacular in it crisp sharp stop-action with just the right amount of bat blur. Unfortunately Oldenburg didn't supply all the info and Leslie's shot was a wee bit before the Challenge period. :-(
