I wish the background came out white. I think it may have something to do with my lighting. Hmmm. Any suggestions?

a white balance check would get the background right - if you're shooting with incandescents - that'll turn it orange-y.

I like the composition of this photo, more sharpness on the stalk would have been good. If you shoot in RAW a white balance adjustment can be made during conversion, that will take the red/orange tint out of the white.

Thanks for the tips!
I was focusing on the stem but I'm not that great at getting it super sharp yet. I'll keep practicing.

Are you using manual focus? I can't manual focus, it never works for me. I find when I'm doing close-up or macro photos that a sturdy tripod is essential and sometimes the tiny vibration from the camera's mirror moving can reduce sharpness (I found it more with the 400D not much with the 5D) so I would use a remote trigger (or self timer) and set the camera to mirror lockup in the menu.

Yeah, I was having a hard time focusing on the stem with the autofocus. So I was trying to manual focus. I'll try setting a timer next time. I'm sure that I just didn't have it focused right either. :)

good angle. I like this shot but I agree with Leonie, Also I think 1600 ISO with 1/2 second exposure is a little too much. Nice shot.

More sharpness... a little more of white balance I think would have done the trick...
