Next year I will go on exchange to the University of West Florida. I'll be spending around four months there. After that, I'm planning on buying an old car (or go with the Greyhounds, depending on money) and travel to the West Coast. I'll only have a big backpack with me and that's it.

I'm planning on buying a Canon S90, regardless. So that one will come with me. It's a nice small camera to put in my pocket and the quality is great.

Now, I'm thinking about upgrading the 450D to a 50D, since prices are really low at the moment. Plus, the more durable body would be good for travel also.

You guys think this is a good idea, or should I just take the S90 and use it as my main camera?

Hi,

Because you are going to be in Florida for 4 months, I would take the 450D or the 50D which ever you decide. There is so much in Florida to see and take pictures of. The 70-300 zoom does a good job in good light. Wildlife is everywhere. My 28-135 also makes a good walk around lens. Does well on most landscape type shots, unless you really want wider.

I don't know anything about the S90 so don't know what will do or not do.

If you are really short of room when you start traveling, you can always ship them home.

S90 hasn't long zoom so maybe you have some trouble on taking photo from far scenes.
