Different studios and types of photography bill the customer in various ways. I have done freelance work shooting childrens sports leagues and gotten paid a flat rate for a days work. I have shot weddings and been paid by the book and # of prints. I have shot product ad work and gotten paid by the hour.

I am presently charging $75 hourly for product work and am giving the customer what I think are the best shots. I am not charging per image or asking for royalties.

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience working out a deal for the image rights per use? Say one penny for each use, so when a catalog is printed (100,000 copies) the number of copies x prints = royalties? 100,000 x 5 images = $5,000... on top of a flat hourly rate or course.

How do you handle this all important feature of business?

I haven't jumped into the photo business end, but from dealings with clients in other creative fields I would suggest making sure your covered in case of overages (client wants changes, edits or more choices) or canceled projects.

I like the disclaimer " If this pricing program causes you distress, financial loss, or marital discord, we take no responsibility " lol

I like that Jim,
I think that I'll start adding it to all of my statements.
