Here's a little action that creates a 3D box with drop shadow. Square images work best since they won't be distorted, but any proportions will work. Make sure your image is flattened first. Since this was created to make quick desktop icons the final image is 128x128 pixels on a transparent background. Just like this:

Other possible uses could be as a web photo album link, or um.. some type of new cereal box, or what ever you can think of.
Enjoy.

IMPORTING ACTIONS INTO PHOTOSHOP:
Download the file to your desktop (or other folder)
In Photoshop, open the Actions window
Click the small triangle in the upper right corner of the Actions window
Select "Load Action" and find the file you just downloaded
A new Action folder should appear in the action list
To run the action, select it's name (not the folder) and click the Play button at the bottom of the Actions window.

P.S. To make desktop icons, you'll need either a plug-in or additional software. For MacOSX I like IconBuilder (http://www.iconfactory.com/iconbuilder.asp). For WinXP I use IconWorkshop (http://www.axialis.com/iconworkshop/). There are many MANY more programs out there, some free. Try searching TuCows (http://www.tucows.com/) or other shareware sites.

Now that's brilliant!

I've heard of compartmentalising people - but never have I been able to get away with boxing up one of the kids!!

Is he feeling a little boxed in? lol (ouch, lethal pun)

Cathie, the action also adds an alpha channel if you need to cut it out. Just load it as a selection (CTRL-click that channel to select). I made it that way for use with an old Mac Photoshop 6 plug-in that exported desktop icons from this format.
