I have the DiMAGE viewer that came with my 7i and with it I can view and "slightly" adjust RAW format files. I also have Photoshop Elements 2, but cannot open the RAW files. I checked the Adobe website and found an add on for photoshop for a hundred bucks.

The question is will it work with Elements and is there another alternative??

Elements II will need a plugin to open raw files... send me a file and I'll see if the adobe converter opens it is the best I can offer you, as I don't know if it handles Minolta files... it doesn't work properly with the 10D, and there is a hack for it (which still doesn't work properly) and there may be hacks for your camera too... in general, I'd suggest sticking with adjusting your raw files to tif's with your camera software and going from there... you may want to look into breezebrowser, which converts Canon raw images, not sure if it supports the raw files from a minolta either...

Realistically, an email to the adobe website should answer the question quickly and easily... the adobe plugin isn't a patch on Capture One LE from Phase One, but again, I have no idea if it supports Minolta RAW files - it's the bees knees for Canon though...

Cheers,
Stuart

From what I read on the Adobe sight, the pluggin does cover Minolta, but It looked to me as though it only worked with Photoshop and not Elements. Am I way off base hear?

How would you like that file? compressed?

Photoshop and Photoshop Elements II, but not Photoshop Elements...

Compressed would be good... I'm now just hoping it's not TOO big and I end up getting it at home on a modem rather than here on ADSL... :-)

You will need to upgrade your Photoshop to version 7.01 before the RAW plug in will install. I have heard it will be part of Photoshop 8 so if you haven't bought either program yet you may want to wait till PS8 comes out. The plug-in for RAW is only just under 3 meg in size. I am not that well versed in the use of the RAW format but the plugin works nicely in PS

Stuart,
Don't you have a USB card reader? Plug in your 256 MB CF card and load things on ADSL and take it home on your memory card and reader. They work great as a portable hard drive.

Hi Ralph,

No my concern is more over the evening and weekend when I collect my mail at home... I need it at work as I don't have the PS converter at home, I use Capture One Limited Edition for everything now...

Cheers,
Stuart

Stuart,

I appreciate the offer, but I think I'll be waiting on the purchase anyway. I have the DiMAGE viewer software which can read the RAW image and convert it into a TIFF. Since I am new to the digital relm, I am sure the PSE II along with the DIMAGE camera and veiwer will keep me busy for a while.

As far as upgrading to Photoshop 7 or 8... I just can't justify the $$$
