Travelling in the country side near home and this windmill caught my eye. It is very late spring here and we have had some unusually unseasonal rains. The ground is still pretty dry as you can see,,,,,,,,,

Terrific photos, Andy! Great exposures & beautiful composition. I keep a mental file of structures like this, thinking about where I might position myself to use them silhouetted for a sunrise or sunset photo. Well done!
Fantastic shots Andy, I prefer #2 the vertical it is a stunner, but #1 is definitely a keeper!!!!!

I voted for the first shot, Andy. The windmill and the nice clouds in the 2nd shot can certainly hold their own. But, IMHO, there is much more to interest the eye in the first photo (the pond, the undulating horizon, the trees in the distance) yet your attention keeps getting drawn back to the windmill. Well done.
BTW – I think you have a dust spot just above the horizon between the 2 groups of trees to the left of the windmill.

Wow Andy, these are beautiful! No doubt you are having a hard pick here,I think that they are both picture perfect images of a fantastic subject! My hats off to you here!Love them both but I will vote ;-) Kudos :thumb:
Edit: Alright, made my choice, had to go with number two.Everything about it is just right on and I want to keep looking, definately drawn to it,the colors are fantastic and your composition not only compliments the main subject but it also shows the beauty of the land around it and the Heavens above it.I just think it is really just beautiful.I would definately hang it on my wall.I would hang both of these but, number two is the one I will pull for. ;-)

Such depth!! These are breathtaking. Very well done. I love the sky... looks like you can reach up and touch the clouds. Both are awsome. I really like them!!!

Wow, nice. I like #2 better, although both are outstanding.

Andy, I went for No.2 eventually.
They are both great pics but the light on the windmill blades in two made it for me. :-)

i prefer #1 the extra colour from the reeds and the orange dirt just give it that extra something for me, they are both great shots though :-D

Its definately got to be the first one, the wider shot shows the landscape and sky in all its dramatic glory!
Well done, get it framed and on your wall!

I like both of these shots because they can be used for different projects. My personal taste goes with the first one. It's more dramatic with the gathering clouds and the plains...
The second photo is very good as well but I find that the wires around the windmill are more distracting in this shot.
Good job! I'd frame the first one. :-)

These are brilliant shots Andy and I like them both. The only comment I would make for what it is worth is that in no.2 the area to the left of the windmill adds nothing to the image whereas the area to the right most certainly does. I don't know whether this image is a crop but if it is I would have tightened up the left side to the windmill and extended the right side to include more of the pond......

Thanks to all who have voted on the poll and special thanks to those who have left comments.
I won't comment at the moment as I am hoping for more feedback.
Interesting to see that of 14 voters so far the poll is split 50:50 :-D :-D

Although I love verticals, for some reason I'm going #1.
You know me ~ can't tell you why I prefer it - just do ..

#1 for me Andy - the cloud formation does it for me. The subject and composition is really nice and so outback mate - two great shots!
PS: Here in Brisbane we are now having localised flooding though not a lot going into the catchment areas for the dams :-(

Both work but No 1 wins for me. Regards Bygaspo.

i love the first one. it gives you the scope of the landscape, and i think the colours just... work... a lot better in it.

I would say vertical but with the angle of the first shot, and the detail of the second shot. :-) And crop the windmill a little more to the left.
It is an excellent image either way, But I like it in vertical.

My vote is for #1 because of composition. If the windmill in #2 was not centered I would chose it hands down. I think it shows more texture and has a better light to it which in turn effects the colors. I find #1 very well composed but a bit flatter in detail and the moody light. This truly is nitpicking and only said to explain my choice. Both are very nice images.
cheers
