On a plane tree I think. Photographed in the centre of a town - a location where some trees struggle, but this species does well.

Nice color and texture! Lots of detailing as well. Never heard of a plane tree before.

Thanks steffies & Richie. I noticed the nice range of colours and shapes, and the textures and diagonals on this section of trunk as I was waiting for my wife in a town centre.

A plane tree is what we call a sycamore.

That's the one Willard - a variety of Platanus. In the UK it's often called the London Plane because so many are planted on the capital's streets. Confusingly, we call a variety of Acer (Acer pseudoplatanus) a sycamore!
