Tim you lucky dog. :-D Mine don't sit still long enough to get pictures and I only have a couple. What makes the background so black?

Nice catch.

I shot this in mid-morning. There was sunlight on the flower, but using a little lower angle I was able to use some woods for the background - thus the dark background.

Would you prefer a lighter background? Someone told me this almost looks like it was shot is a studio. :-) I think I like the dark background for this shot.

It made me think studio too. So I was just curious, as how you got him inside. lol lol

About 20 years ago, we had a photo shop in town. The owner had a picture of a hummingbird he had taken hanging on the wall. When he described all the effort he went too, to get it, I couldn't believe the little guy had even come back. If I remember right, there was flash, reflectors, very fast shutter speed etc.

So just a curious question. I think the dark background shows him off very well. Especially the way is so well lit.

EXIF:

Focal length: 500.0mm
Exposure time: (1/125)
ISO equiv.: 400
Aperture: f/13.0

I had to use a tripod, a remote shutter release, and mirror lockup to get the shot really sharp.

BTW - I didn't use a flash for this shot.

What a great capture Tim. I like the dark background. I never see these guys sitting still.

That's cool, man sitting right on a nice flower, what a great catch. Good job!
