Hi im quite new to digital SLR's and im after some quick help

I bought the A300 today purly because it has AF in live view but aopon getting it home i have found the charger dont work and the Liveview already has a dead pixel so im concerned if i made the right choice

The only reason that i went Sony instead of canon was due tot he live view but since searching online i found this link which states a form of AF in liveview on the canon

Any suggestions welcome bearing in mind i have used a Canon Powerhsot A80 for the last years and a old EOS of my dads

thanks
Neil

Exchange the A300 and get a new one that works.

If you already made your choice then simply getting a bad copy of a particular camera shouldn't really be a factor in changing it. Return the Sony and get an A300 that works properly.

However, you mentioned that you've been using an old EOS of your Dad's. If there are some lenses with that EOS that you can re-use on the new camera you might want to reconsider your choice. Any Canon brand lens that fits your Dad's EOS will also work on the new digital EOS bodies.

I purchased a Sony A300 about 3 months ago and so far I've been real happy with it. I still have a lot to learn buts its been great!

Best thing to do is to try and get hold of both, weigh up lens options, both cameras with have their advantages and disadvantages so you really need to look at what they offer and make that decision yourself, shutter speed range, frames per minute, auto options, general feel all play their part in the decision making process but you really need to get hold of both as you can determine the weight, the balance, how they feel in your hand, you can see the build quality.

I know that doesn't make the decision for you but the choice is yours.

Hmm i was undergoing the same problem and took about a month to work out the solution ... The canon 450 D is that solution.
