One year later ..

Hello Photozo friends.

It's almost a year now since i have left the moderators pool, and thought it was time again to give you a little update about my life outside the moderators pool and a year "off duty".

The year started with a well deserved holiday in our own country. After we all enjoyed a lazy summer with outstanding weather a year of work, school and courses began. Kids got back to school, and besides our regular jobs my wife started her second year of study to become a Coach in Wellness & Massages and i started a new 3 year course to get me a higher degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Working and studying at the same time took a big bite out of our free time in the evenings and weekends. Our regular life with the kids and family as priority #1 was hardly leaving time for our other hobbies.

Photography and spending time at Photozo was since then on a very low level, from time to time i tried to pop in here to see how you all were doing, but i didn't realy follow all the news and new pictures each day and weeks.

In the past year i didn't take many photo's, and if i did it was mainly the snapshots from the family happenings. Fun, but not as good as going out with my own camera and spending a day doing my thing.
To renew my inspiration for photography a bit i took courses in spring this year, one about night photography and another one to explore the city of Rotterdam with your camera in your hand. It was fun again having a full day to take some photographs.

Also last year i fullfilled another big wish and made the decision to buy me a motorbike!
The main reason to do so was to make traveling to and from work more easy. Traffic around Rotterdam here was becoming a struggle more every day with trafficjams and such. The bike saves me quite a bit of time to travel every week!
Having a motorbike also gave me the oppertunity to go out and do some driving around and then combining that with photography. I also joined a motor-forum and they organise some trips and routes every few weeks, i attended a few and it's great to be amongst other people who like the same hobby.
It is almost the same as the meetings i had with other Photozo-ers, these are fun days!

The past year has gone by in a blink .. and we just returned from another well deserved holiday in England and Scotland to be with our friends again. In about a few weeks the circus of work, school and studies begin again ..

It was good to see in the past year that a lot of my favorite photographers are still here and deliver great photos. It's good to come here now and then and enjoy your work!
Keep it up!

Wishing you and your families all the best and good health, and above all enough inspiration to get the best out of yourself and your camera!
Best regards and Have Fun!
Eric.

Glad to hear from you Eric. Neat bike but I would be very afraid to ride one in traffic. When I was in Budapest the taxi we were in clipped a bike rider on purpose that was trying to pass us between lanes. The rider just got up and continued on his way after some hand gestures at our driver.
Glad you enjoyed your vacations and good luck in your studies.

I see by your shadow shot that you've also grown your hair out, Eric!

Your motorbike sounds like the perfect photography vehicle. So often there's no place to park a car at the side of the road where they're a great photo opportunity. How much is petrol in your area? Here (northern California) the cheapest is $3.03 per U.S. gallon.

    Thanks for catching us up.

Hi and thanks for your messages!

Monnie, girls are getting big indeed, Femke is 10 and Mirte just turned 7, and they keep growing! Haha , added a picture above so you can have a glimps

Jim, driving a bike isn't that difficult and dangerous, just need to have some discipline and drive a bit more defensive then in a car, people in cars seem to have a habbit of not noticing bikes . First time on the bike and then getting though trafficjams was a task, but after a few weeks it gets easier. Saves me lots of time!

Bruce, tried to grow some hair but the wind in England blew it all away again .. borrowed some from Femke
The bike is great for getting closer to photo places, and you're right about parking .. lots easier and no ticket needed in most places, besides that .. where do i put the ticket ??
    Petrol is about € 1,50 per liter .. about 3,8x €1,50 = € 5.70per gallon .. somewhat around US$ 7.50 per gallon .. not cheap is it ...

Hi Jerry, i do have fun with the bike, mostly for driving to work but sometimes for some more relaxing drives.
Still taking pictures, but time to do anything with them is hard to find between family, work and studies.
It's great to see your adventures written in your blogs, read them with interest to see where your yourney goes, it's inspiring to see what you come up everytime! Keep it up!

Thanks again for your messages, regards, Eric.

Hai(?) Eric,...you taught us so much,...(Tina and I felt bad that we never adaquetly told you how much you were appreciated).

We came back and found your void in the collective,...the resonance is now gone,...but we think of you often.

    Thanks for writing,.....
