Thread: Taylor Guitar (please C&C)

    Default Taylor Guitar (please C&C)

This is my first photograph (since starting DSLR photography) that I've edited with photoshop and changed it's form in any way. Tell me what you think, I need honesty. I've been a graphic designer for a while, but I've always created vector art or used other photographers images.

EDIT: When I created this, I was seeing an image that could be put on the Taylor website for promotional/aesthetic purposes.

The photo itself is very nice and shows a lovely shallow depth of field. I agree about the frames, not sure about that as I find it distracts from a lovely photo. I'd also clone out the spot (dust spot?) on the left and whatever that object is jutting into the photo on the left.

I love the shot and have no knowledge of graphic design but I was wondering.
How would this look if you turn the name "Taylor" so that it's oriented toward the viewer?
I realize it's not correct per-say but if using it for addvert. or a web site it maybe would be more effective. Just asking.

if that be the case, you want to take the pick with the guitar name in correct orientation... if you were turn the name itself, it would throw the whole pick out imho.. especially if being used as an advert, 1: youd want correct orientation of the guitar, and a less noise and better shot of the guitar down the neck leading to the name and keys, with the name and keys in sharp focus and the neck/foreground blurred so u could effectively use the space for advert detail and information... make sense?

Actually, I took that picture today as well...ask and you shall receive. This one may have actually missed the mark when focusing by a hair.

Actually I ment to turn the name in Photoshop and leave the guitar in the same orientation. My daughter actually did it but we didn't save it.
We selected the name with the magic wand. Copied it to a new layer and then cloned out the original. I definately agree the original is preferable to this last shot.

That would never be reasonable because the guitars aren't made that way. I see how you would want to make it that way from a design perspective, though.

That's why I asked, becuase I don't know. I've heard of similar things being done but wasn't sure if it would be appropriate.

Aaron, I really like the first post but agree about the frames. Maybe the inner most frame and remove the "middle" frame. I really like that shot!!
I also love the color version you posted at 6:19 with the Taylor name reading "correctly". I think it works. Yeah the focus just barely missed but cool none the less.
