John...In my opinion...You did the right thing. You will probably make more $$$$ off of referals from this one client, than you would by any other client. So hopefully this client will do right by you, and give you tons of referals for things that you can make money on. I would see if you are getting credit on the website for the photos though....even if you just can put your signature on them for the web site...another way to get your name out.

Tracy; Thats a good idea. I'll talk to the guy this week and ask him to place my name and maybe a E-mail link to czenkephoto@gmail.com somewhere embeded in the lines. That way the site visitors can just click on my name and that would open a new message window for them and that way they can contact me directly. Jeesh, I still have to have some business cards printed out for my self. Any ideas. I run under Czenke-Photo and the email above.

The link to your email or a web site of your own is a great idea. I think that you will get tons free advertising by doing that, and really what did it cost you???? An hour of your time...sounds like a great pay off to me.
I took my god child's senior photos tonight...several great ones, some good ones, and some terrible ones...but all in all, his mom wanted 55 proofs...so I guess it was a good experience!!!
Tracy; I shot about 47 and only had to delete two handheld shots out of all. Some turned out a lill dark without the usage of tripod, but nothing that a lill brightening couldn't save!I also shot two where I left the ladder by the reception and the ladder shows in two images. I used the ladder for some shots to take pictures from a high point, like the one on the first picture. That was shot by me standing on a ladder. Oh well, they can just clone it out or crop the image, as it is on one side of the picture. They have a graphic artist who processes the images and maybe she builds the new site as well. They already have a site, but since the business is expanding, they want to have it updated with both places.

John, you did the right thing. As you start out, if you can land a job, where you know that the benefits will profit you later, it is good to do some pro-bono work, to build up your name and reputation. Good work on the shots.
John, I do this from time to time as well just to get my name out there. You can also ask him if it is okay to come back and shoot some shot of the stylist working. With model releases signed, they can be good stock photos to have. Photos look great btw.

The only one that I have ever known
Don't know were it goes
But its home to me and I walk alone
Well there's a school of thought which says "never give anything away because what someone receives for free they assume has no value".
To an extent that's true but you don't necessarily have to receive monetary compensation. Sometimes I will allow a web site or motor club to use my images and I won't charge them money for it. I will insist, however, that a prominent link to my website is placed on their site and that my copyright statement is attached to each image. In effect I am bartering with them and receiving advertising in return for use of some of my pictures. As long as it doesn't get out of hand, it's a fair trade. I never, ever give something away for nothing though.
I think the important thing to note though, John, is to get the rewards for a shoot sorted out beforehand. What you did "wrong" in this case (in my opinion) was not to have agreed the terms on which you were shooting before doing the job. It saves those awkward "what do I owe you" moments if nothing else.
I'll echo the other comments, the shots are nice.
Ladies and gentleman; Please keep in mind, These are the original images the way they came out of my camera. Not edited or cropped in any ways. I only did some basic brightness/contrast adjustments and re-size. That will be the site's graphic artist's work and webmaster to crop and do other things.
I just shot the images the best way I could. I kind of feel good about this decision as now the guy owes me one...Thank you for the encouragement also. I will call the guy today and tell him to show it on the web site as a credit to me, like "Photos by John Czenke" and maybe so site visitors can click on my name and would be able to send me an instant email that way...
The keys for the other shop will be obtained at the first of October. I assume he wants before and after pictures of that other place. I'll try charging him around $150/Hr if he calls me for any other shoots.
