Here is mine. I am not very good at this computer stuff but I am working on it, any suggestions would be great, would love to upgrade to pro to have more freedom of design but I am not sure it would make sense to spend the extra money.

Looks pretty good Shorty. There is at least one gallery that still has a light background and doesn't match the others.

Thanks Skippy I have changed those two galleries to better match the others,
kind of limited with what I can do without the pro subscription, with that you can make our site much cooler.

Been using smugmug since 2004... so far I had a better experience with them than others I had tried before (i.e.: phase, fotop, etc) I know that some services are free, but I still love smugmug

Aw Zac you have broken my heart with your price raise. You have even went from 4 choices to just two. Having only recently acquired a dsl connection have been thinking that after the first of the year I would sign up. Probably not anymore. I don't sell things at all but like to put pictures where others can order prints. At the moment Shutterfly is the default. Shutterfly was where the Kodak Galleries were sent. They can order online and pick up at Walgreens or Walmart. Not always the best print jobs.

Maybe some of the higher up will rethink their choices. Best of luck.

It's a site where one can load images and they can be viewed and purchased via smugmug.

They just announced a price increase to subscribers and there is quite an uproar from users.

We actually went from 3 account levels to 4 . You should be at either the Power or Portfolio level just based on what you have said here. Feel free to PM me directly to talk about it! Check out the different account levels on this link.

So, Ima Hack, if I understand this correctly, at my advanced age, if one is not interested in any way, shape or form in commercial gain in their photography, then am I correct in concluding that smugmug is irrelevant?

I would say that smugmug is irrelevant even if you are interested in commercial gain....more so now than before...they will earn at least 67% more that you may......you will not get rich, they are.....any deal that is win / loose....can only be good for the winner, obvious, yes, but needs to be said.

......and, as per Zac, you have 4 choices to spend your money with a company that will, in all likely hood, increase the price in this manner again..... especially if people are complacent and allow themselves to be duped by the spin of the justification of this increase.

Zac thanks for the page link. I did not find it when looking earlier. Looks like you are still in my price range.

Have always loved some of the darker themes for your galleries. They just seem to show off pictures so much better than the really light skins.

So, Ima Hack, if I understand this correctly, at my advanced age, if one is not interested in any way, shape or form in commercial gain in their photography, then am I correct in concluding that smugmug is irrelevant?
Not necessarily so John. At this point in time, you could sign up for one of the two lesser cost plans, store your pics at full size (think back up) and have links to use anywhere. They could also be purchased. The details are too complicated to go into here. A far easier and safer way than storing them all over the web like I do and having to resize to save storage space.

Zac once again thanks for the link. You made me smile. Consider yourself hugged. Life is busy. I will be in touch.

Skippy....I must say I am very surprised that you would even consider it when they have acted in the manner they have, regardless of any perceived or other redeeming reasons for there site. Regardless of the "cost" per service, the magnitude of the % increase is beyond the scope of any normal price adjustment. But being a "non essential" style service it seems palatable for some, and there is the freedom of choice aspect.

I wish them all the success and may they find many customers with more money then sense...........for myself, the act is abhorrent, and I would not even have a free account.

Michael, unless I read the page wrong the bottom to caterogories have not risen. Basic is $40 and power is $60. I think it was the power that I was looking at and maybe it went up $5. My budget was around $50 dollars a year. So they are still in the ball park.

Zac that means if I sign up I will send you a lump sum and it will lock in my price for that number of years................Right!

Michael, you never used your account to it's full potential (your pages didn't even match) and maybe you over subscribed for where you were at, at the time. I am just looking for a convenient way to store and share things. Have long ago over run my Flicker account and now they would like at least $24 a year. And it's good, but not the showy dark backgrounds. There are maybe other things that will come to mind, further research needs to be done on my part.

And yes I agree what they did to the top two tiers was scandalous. If not out right, highway robbery. Be patient and maybe they will listen.

Skippy......Regardless of any spin or rationalization.....they have acted and shown how they do business, and with that knowledge, you may still walk forward.........Caveat emptor.

    "Caveat emptor
" means loosly "buyer beware". (love alliteration)

Yup, power account sounds like it would be perfect for you, Skip! I can't promise that we will never raise prices on the Power account. Wish I could but I just can't make that promise. Prices go up, it's a fact of life that we all have to deal with. Sure do wish I could keep paying $1.25 for gas like I did 10 years ago!

Skippy.....you have become Skip, a diminutive of your nom de plume, how nice. May I call you Skip, or it that reserved for people who want your money. Zac......and I bet you could afford a 67% gas price increase.....I wonder who else on this forum could. And the "facts of life"....your naivety is, just that.

It is 100% understood that many may be upset about the rise in prices @ smugmug, as we are all upset about rising prices Everywhere and in every aspect of life. I ask that all please keep this civil. Smugmug made their business decision based on what they felt was necessary. Consumers now have to make their decision. No need to go back and forth on the forum... The most powerful message is what you do with your account. You either extend and continue or you close and discontinue.

If you are really upset, I ask that you contact their customer service.

    Thank You
