Thread: Camera Update

    Default Camera Update

As many of you know, my Canon 40D stopped working during the 4th of July fireworks show I was attending. I tried all the "normal" fixes you are supposed to do, i.e, (change battery, remove CF card, apply hammer to top of camera with Herculean force, etc.) Nothing worked. So it was time to search the internet and see if I could find some help. Unbelievably, I did. A young man had posted to a site I ran across that he had removed the main battery as well as the watch type battery that controls the date/time/year in his camera. He let it set for about 30 minutes, then put it back together and the camera "rebooted" itself. I tried that and Voila, it worked. The 40D came on and seems to be working just fine. What a relief! For some reason the camera gods smiled on me. ~~Peg

Thanks everyone. I was so heartbroken when it failed. It was like losing an old friend and then having a miraculous recovery happen. Good things do happen sometimes when we least expect them to. ~~Peg

Thanks Sudhakar. Yes it is. It sits just behind the main battery in a small pullout slot. I had no idea it was even there. It is barely mentioned in my owner's manual. ~~Peg

I shoot a 40D also and didn't know about the second battery. Tucking that tidbit away.

I didn't know about it either. If you ever need to reset your 40D, just remove both batteries and then replace about 30 minutes later. ~~Peg
