As we observe this hot saga, BobR, one thing that is evident is that the subject is gradually drying out; not that there's anything wrong with that. In fact, I always like to say, "the more shriveled the pepper, the hotter the heat!", not that that's ever gotten me anywhere, but you can't blame a person for trying.

I think the first image, while technically interesting as an example of a subject with a totally blown out white background, is just too hard on the eyes; at least on my eyes.

I'm with yellalablady on the second one since we have a pretty much neutral gray background with the "value" or luminosity, if you will, of the subject being actually higher than that of its background, adding to its visual attraction relative thereto, and also the color in contrast to the gray, and also the detail which now becomes evident on the skin of the gradually drying out fruit and its stem, not to mention the very nice shadow that yellalablady mentioned; that one would be my choice of a favorite.

The green vignette in the third one is nice, but, I feel, a bit contrived since this is, after all, just a pepper, however exemplary a specimen. It is probably not deserving of a vignette, unless one really, really loves peppers and has been diagnosed with OCD.

However, I regret that In my response, my excessive verbosity may have opened me up to criticism from the venerable Baron von Smoogle; known for his terse. pithy comments. But I thought this instance worth these potential outrageous slings and arrows.

I really like the second one Bob, great contrast on the hood.

Thanks John! Love your "verbose" responses. Thanks Paul. It seems the overwheming concensus is in favor of the pepper on the hood. Bob

You wound me, CJ!! I really do like your verbosity. Most time I even understand it. It usually matches my feelings which I can't always put into words as well as you.

In this case I agree mostly with you and Monnie. I also like the car hood photo. The colors work really well together with the graduated gray. It would look nice on a wall. The white one would work well if you were trying to sell the pepper in a catalog.

Well,I'm going to put my head above the parapet and say that I love the starkness and intensity of number 1.

I think that the pepper looks too fresh for the vignette treatment-perhaps in a week or three?

Thanks Karin! One for my "light box" version!

FWIW- The car hood is black. Took me a bit to polish the heck out of it so no dirt showed in the pic. Bob
