It sounds to me like you have't done much research. Visit the beloew site, it allows you to compare different cameras in a side by side format. It will give you all the details.
I started out with a Nikon coolpix 32oo. It was a piece of junk though. for me I wanted something more professional. I moved on to a Olympus C8080. Now, i really liked this camera at first. After using the nikon for so long this was quite the upgrade. but THEN I got a Konica Minolta Maxxim 7D. And that's what i currently use. I love it. Way better than the Olympus C8080. Eventually when I can afford to, I want better camera and lens and all that good stuff. But what i have right now will have to do.
One thing in particular that I love about my minolta is the Manual zoom. Digital zoom kinda sucks in comparison. plus it's just cool.
Anyway. I guess my point is be picky and choosey. Small details can make a big difference.

Rap, this article offers the unbiased opinion of a respected camera reviewer:

That's still just his opinion. You have to live with something to know weather you'll love or hate its idiosyncracies.
but thats the thing. x.x i can only get a camera less than 500 dollars for my bday because heating bills are so high so "everybody has to compromise" X.X
besides, i don't really mind the slow pic taking or low batt life. it could go on dbl A's, and i have tons of em..
