    Default Self Portraits

I just wrote Cathie an email and thought I would share something I discovered this afternoon.

As I’m home alone this week with my wife traveling, I was bored and decided to do some self portrait nudes just for fun. I did find an interesting fact on my camera, as I have a Canon electronic shutter release cable that is about 3 feet long. I didn’t know it but it has a lock on the button, so if I have my camera on a 10 second delay and lock down the button, it will fire every 10 seconds and you don’t have to jump up, click the shutter and then run to get in place before the shutter clicks. Maybe that’s what Trayci does to get all those great shots she does of herself. Anyway, that is a nifty thing to know about and though I would share it with you.

This is the release I have that was given me by a friend:

There are other models for different cameras.

Well, don’t hold your breath waiting to see one of the photos. This old guy sure ain’t what he used to be. In fact, it’s pretty scary.

    Landis,

Thanks for the tip. I did not know this function, lock and 10 seconds delay. Very useful.

Thanks for the tip Landis .. but it will be a snowy day you'all know where before I do nude self portraits ... it's hard enough for me to find a fully clothed one I'm happy with!!

I used to have a feature on my older G3 camera, ... if connected to the computer the canon software allows me to set an interval and it will take the pics according to that, don't know wether my 20D can do that too, just never tried it, maybe worth looking into your software for your camera.
Sure that will only work with your camera close to the computer, or with a long usb cable ... but since you were alone in the house .. who cares if you are running butt naked in the rooms ...
Thanks for sharing the tip Landis.

Here is another way to do the same thing. I just tried it. No cord necessary. Get yourself some of those really BIG rubber bands available in any Office Max / Staples type store. Then get a small wood block or anything about the size of your shutter button. Set up your camera to do the 10 second delay function, and turn off the camera. Put on the rubber band by your shutter side of the camera, put the block on the button so it is depressed all the way in. You may have to wrap the rubber band around a few times to get enough pressure. When you turn on the camera, it will start firing every 10 seconds. I would think that this would work on just about any make dSLR camera, but as I say, Try It and see for yourself.

LOL! Maybe we should make it a requirement to be part of the Artistic Nude Forum to post a self nude! Just kidding.

Landis, Thanks for the tip on the shutter release. I have a remote for my 7D, and I think that may work on mine. I will try and let you know. But not for nudes of me mind you, I am with Cathie on that front.

Well, I will try the rubber band thing to see if that works..... However, I don't know that I would be holding my breath waiting for a nude self portrait of me either..... But who knows.... My saying is: one glass of wine, I am very happy, two glasses of wine, and I am dancing on the table..... THREE glasses of wine, and I am dancing on the table NAKED..... so maybe I will have to add to that one, FOUR GLASSES of wine, and I AM TAKING NUDE SELF PORTRAITS!!!!!

    Too Funny Mike!

I was going to try a selfer but then I looked in the mirror, LOL! Seriously, I might try it just so I can tell prospective models that I wouldnt ask them to do something I wouldnt do. Get ready for a shock soon, maybe!

Landis, Thanks for the email about getting started here. I hope to learn much about semi nude and nude photography. Now if I can just get someone to agree to a photo shoot.

I will have to use available light cause I dont have all the fancy lights you guys do, but I will make do.

Landis, your self shots are honest and show a real person and not an arbrushed made up body... Good job.

That is absolutely NO EXCUSE, Fireman for not posing your self here. Rule #1 is the AN Gallery is "No Shame" We all come in different sizes and shapes and I must say........there is an artiic side of each and every one of us. I'm sure that none of us look as good as we did when we were 21 years old.........that's life.

I don't have any light's either other than a external flash that clips on the top of my camera. Every one of my shots in the AN gallery is with natural lighting.

Cathie, hopefully we are twice as wise as we were at that young age. Now if you are "twice the woman" you were at 21? I'm wise enough to not even go that route.

It appears that my "block and rubber band" method does not work on all cameras, but I think it's worth a try. I can suggest you try it and if it doesn't work, see about getting a proper electronic release that are availalbe to the Canon dSLR cameras and I'm sure other brands as well.
