Wanna tell us a little about yourself, like work / hobbies / interests?

I have a variety of interests of which work is not one of them! ... I have a great crowd of friends and family who try and keep track of me but can't seem to keep up! ... I'm sure they are always wondering what I will get up too next, fortunately they are used to finding that I am away somewhere unknown, exploring some far flung corner of the world.

I have always enjoyed travel and have quite a list of country's visited now ... favourite place visited so far ... Australia, yes good old OZ were I traveled a few years ago. It was the best trip I have ever done, bar none ... Switzerland does come a close second though.

As most people who know me here at Photozo I like anything that goes fast and makes a loud noise! ... Motorcycle racing and Fast Jets take centre stage. It all ties in with my main interest these days Photography.

My Photography has really taken over now days and I really enjoy it more than anything else. I never thought I would go this far with it but with the development of digital Photography it really has captured my imagination.

What made you start with digital photography?

Well I had been shooting Film and Slides for a few years and I wanted to get some of my work out to get some feedback from other photographers. After becoming a member of Photozo it was natural to turn to Digital. When I first joined I had only scans of prints and slides to upload. That was ok but everyone else were talking about digital cameras so I did feel a bit out of place for a while. But I did learn a hell of a lot about Digital Photography in a very short space of time so I knew I wanted to get a digital camera ASAP.

Brian had a Fuji S7000 for sale so I though it would be an ideal first Digital camera so I bought it and I was very pleased to experience the freedom that Digital gave over years of Film shooting ... with no processing and being able to view my work whilst shooting was great. To be able to upload shots to Photozo on the same day as shooting was another big plus for me. As it happens I still shoot with the S7000 and it's a good little camera ... so I now was a Digital Photographer! ... never looked back!.

How did you find Photozo? What made you stay?

Well I wanted to build my own web site for my Images originally but found I was woefully lacking in the computer skills required. I knew there were sites that you could upload to so I decided to go that way instead. Trying to build a web site with now experience will turn your brain into a puddle! ... trust me.

I searched Google and after looking through a few sites I found Photozo. It looked a good site and with 10MB of free space to upload my pictures I though I would give it a try.

It was the friendly nature of the site that kept me here for the first few weeks. It can be a bit daunting to new members going on a site for the first time. But a warm welcome from the members put me at ease and I really began to enjoy interacting with other Photographers from around the world.

I had looked through the gallery's and there was a picture of Mt Hood on the first page and I was very impressed with that shot and after looking through lots of pictures I knew Photozo was the place for me .. and still is!

Do you have a favorite thread or topic at Photozo?

I don't really have one thread of topic that stands out. I have read so many, But the Photozo meet threads for London and the lakes etc I really enjoyed. I think the fact that Photozo has become a much busier place and it's the whole thing now that's enjoyable not just one thread. The trouble is I can't keep up anymore there's so much going on!

The good thing I have noticed is that a lot more new members are actually being active in the forum now ... I could never figure out why people joined and never got involved ... anyway I'm sure there's going to be plenty of threads to get my teeth into in future.

What topic would you like to see explained in the Knowledge Base?

Well I have covered so much in the last two years ... Cameras, Photoshop, Computers etc I haven't even been able to start on the printing side of things. So that would be something that would be good to learn. There is plenty to learn about digital printing and having followed Landis and Tracy (Jdog) expertise in this area with there print related threads I'm beginning to understand it better. I still do not have a printer at all ... so its an area that I will have to work on ... I have to say those 'HUGE' prints do look great!

Anything else you like to share about Photozo or yourself?

Well yes ... first of all I would like to thank all of the members here for creating such a great place to come and share knowledge and experience with me and all those who have given me feedback on my work. I have been able to meet up with some of the Photographers here and that has been a great experience for me and I hope we will meet up again in the future.

Photography gives you more than just a picture of something at the end of the day ... but above all it's the enjoyment you get from it that counts no matter what camera you have or how long you have been doing it for ... enjoy your Photography.

I have quite a few plans for future photo projects and I will be investing in some new kit soon (EF 100x400 IS 'L') so be warned ... afterburner's are well and truly lit ... well you didn't think I was going to go quietly! ... did you?

What is your favorite photo from your gallery and why?

Well it had to be a sunset ... didn't it?
'Here comes the Sun' is one of my all time favourites ... I took it one evening in a small coastal town close to were I live. I looked out to sea and watched as the sun dropped away. I had waited an hour to get the sun on the horizon and whilst everyone else rushed around me I just waited for this moment ... and click it was captured forever.

I looked at this Image and knew it would be a favourite ... hell I nearly dropped my Fish & Chips!!! ... all the best ... Cheers, Bazza.

Great to see you in the Spotlight Barry, your photos are always great inspirations, even the car and motorcycles ones (which I don't have an interest in), but you take such great ones, they peak my interest.

Thanks for taking the time Barry. You certainly are an asset around here... Look foward to seeing your work with a 100-400mm... Those Bikes and Planes are going to get that much more interesting.

Thanks Stephen and Mike, glad you enjoyed my write up.........Mike:Waiting for my new lens to arrive.I didn't get the canon in the end I had a budget to stick too so i went for the Sigma 80-400 EX OS instead......it was £400.00 cheaper than the canon but is still a good performer.......its a step up from the lens I have been using and with all the shooting I want to do in the future it will be a good purchase.........the extra range I will get will help with the 'Fast Jet' shots I want and the Image stabalisation will help with those prop planes taken with slower shutter speeds.........can't wait to get my hands on it!........thanks again.......Cheers Bazza
