Default Maldives - pano of water bungalows at dusk (NEW PICS ADDED)

A Panorama from the water village at the White Sands resort in the Maldives.

A larger version is available here:

I'm finally getting round to editing the pictures from my honeymoon back in 2006. I have a number of panoramas to put together, but this one has taken the of my time. The original pictures were underexposed but were taken in RAW and processed to bring up the brightness of the bungalows without blowing out the highlights of the sunset. Next I joined the photos together, then did some edits in paint shop pro including a fair amount of cloaning at the edges and joins of the image.

I would be very interested to hear your comments! Especially regarding the crop, I would like to make it less wide but didn't know what to cut out

Thanks for looking, and honest critique or comments welcome!

    Neil.

Oh My God. Neil, this is just beautiful!
Whatever work you've had to do to it has been so worth it.
If it were mine I would print it HUGE and hang it somewhere where everyone would see it.

Neil I looked at the larger image! What a magnificent work of art. IMHO there is nothing you could take out, it so beautiful just like it is. You would lose too much if you cropped.

Neil, I'm with Jan. There isn't anything you can take out of it without changing it. Just build a house with a wide fireplace so you can hang it over the mantle. Very pretty pano.

I just love well done panos and this certainly comes under the category of WOWZERS!!! Do not change a thing.

Now that the honeymoon is over, you could get back to more photography. I can't wait to see more of your work.

The trick to good photography is to learn where to point your camera and when to push the shutter. The EYE is more important than all the technical stuff.

Excellent Neil, that is a beauty.

Makes me want to visit, great skies and the layout works really well.

Thanks for all the excellent feedback everyone! Have any of you ever worked SO long on a photo that you lose sight of what you're trying to achieve?

I guess the engineer in me likes to see some symettry and I was curious if anyone would say the wooden pier should be in the center.

viv1969 - thankyou! Yes maybe I should print it. I've got a few day time ones which I'm working on also, I'll upload them when they are ready and get you guys to vote on which should be printed

Leonie - it's (Maldives) one of the most amazing places for a relaxing holiday and world class scuba diving

Jan - glad you liked it

Skippy - a house on the beach? Now that could be nice. Though the water bunglows are a lot of fun. You can look out over the balcony and see troipcal fish swimming around.

Landis - I've been very busy with the photography since I've been in the states, but I haven't spent the time in the editing and uploading that seems to take more time. Thanks for the kind words.

Keith - Thanks, and yes, I'd highly recommend a visit. It was tricky to adjust the RAW processing to make the sky look right.

    Thanks all,

    Neil.

It would bother me to see the pier centered. I really like this shot, Neil! I hope you're going to print it large for your home. Such a great memento of your honeymoon with Fran.

Hi All, here's another pano from the same place, but a different night. A very impressive storm cloud and sunset combination, beautiful colours! I've included two different crops, I'd love to know which you prefer. Also let me know which you prefer out of this picture and the first I posted above.

Also see the links below each picture for the large version.

All of them is beautiful (including the night shot you put in another thread). I really enjoy the asymmetry of this last one, though. Each one evokes a different mood. Great job.

A lovely shot with great colour. The broken clouds and remains of the day make it.

Great job on the first pic! I like how the pier leads to the row of huts then on to the rest of the image. Wonderful shot!

Bruce, Ron, tony, kalevala, thanks all for your comments. I'm finally getting the hang of the panoramic photo edits. For those that are interested, I think the last pano was hand held only. You don't *have* to have one of those special tripod mounts and brackets to get good results, but it might make it easier.

Neil these are both fantastic pano's. Fantastic scenery and skies in both. My favourite is actually the second one with that great cloud formation making a great focus point. The colours are very nice as well. Good work on the stitching with these. Hard work but worth it. I shoot quite a lot of pano's when I'm out but always run out of time to get them processed. This has inspired me to revisit some of my collection to put them together.

    Cheers,
    Steve
