Wow, the wings have such detail in the first one that I am blown away. In the second shot, it looks like it is smiling. Very good photos

    Thanks Inspector. Thanks Ruth.
Yes, I really do like that little 50mm, and to think the first time I used it I put it away for a long while because I wasn't thrilled with it Definite learning curve, but well worth it to use it and learn it.

Linda, those are awesome! The second one with the smiley face needs to be on a postcard or something!

I think my next lense will be that 50 mm.

Miss Linda, I am impressed. Not with the first shot. It's ok, good comp, exposure, great dof, but an ok shot. Then I scrolled down and WOW what a great, wonderful, awww inspiring shot. Great comp, great dof, nice and sharp on the face of the dragonfly. two thumbs up.

Thanks Helen. Thanks Robin! I owe you a lot of thanks because I learned a lot from you in the class His face could be a bit sharper, but I think the lens did okay. I so want extension tubes. Definitely getting them for Christmas, if not sooner

Helen, the 50mm is very inexpensive lens. I think mine was $109 from B&H, but well worth it as it's very sharp and decently fast too. Pick one up for yourself. I think you'll like it.

Linda a bit of advise, buy you a macro (or ask Santa for one), I love mine. I haven't tried extension tubes, but I have heard (don't know for sure) that they are hard to get use to.

Robin, I've used extension tubes and love them. A real challenge, but awesome results. Now I want some of my own

I am in the process of getting a macro... it hasn't arrived yet. It's not a prime though, it's a 28-105.

Oh, good, I just never had the opportunity to use any. As for the macro I would rather have a little play in my zoom then a fixed length.

Don't be frustrated, just walk away for awhile, relax and come at it from a different angle. I tell all my students, you get to Carnegie Hall with practice, well you become a great photographer with the same, Practice, Practice and more Practice. It just takes time.

Sue, I can't tell you how many times I've been frustrated. I think I need different lenses or a different camera body, I shoot what I think looks good, get in the house, put them on the computer, and they all suck. So I just try again.

And every once in awhile I get a really brilliant shot.

You don't see my yucky shots. I try to post my best shots here.

So don't give up, trust me... keep it fun and keep on practicing. You'll get there!

Alan, thanks so much, appreciate the comments.

These are excellent Linda, I too have just learned about my 50mm, it sat in the bag for months. Silly girls.
I have just ordered a set of 3 Kenko Extension Rings, waiting for delivery. Darren (dearis) is going to coach me with them if I get stuck.

    Thanks Brad!

Jan, you will love the kenko tubes. I'm a wee bit jealous of you now. I must wait for Santa to bring them for me.
