Had to run up the island this morning to get some stuff from the shop. On the way back, I swung over to get a couple of sailboats moored in the morning calm of Penn Cove.
If you have ever seen that series "Dirty Jobs" on TV, well this is the cove (Penn Cove) where they filmed him harvesting mussels from the pens. They hang an object on a rope, off floating docks, and the mussels attach and grow on them. Then after a spell, they raise the rope up onto the float, and pry them loose, size them, package them in sacks of 25, or 50 pounds per, ice them down and run them to SeaTac airport....
Within 24 hours they can be on your plate (they are famous and will list them on the menu as "Penn Cove Mussels") in a restaurant. They work everyday but christmas, and workers are always needed![]()
