Default Waterfowl & Sunset on Mobile Bay

Our family (wife, 3 kids and their spouses, and 5 grand kids) spent Thanksgiving on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay. We ate, fished, and I managed to get a few shots. Hope you like them.

The brown pelicans are very numerous on the bay, and can be seen frequently flying low over the water.

The heron had just moved from one pile of rocks to another, and I managed to catch him returning.

This sunset was accented by numerous clouds and a brilliant orange glow. I was walking my pouch when I noticed the glow and ran (yea right!) back to the house to take the shot. P.S. I did not enhance the color.

Three definite keepers, Jim! I like the composition and reflections in all of these. #3 is a dazzler! These all have the bonus of being great souvenirs of a fun time with your family.

Nice work, Jim. Pelicans or so interesting. Great job capturing the birds. The sunset is spectacular, especially the sky. I love the silhouetting.

Jim, the first two are nice, but that sunset shot is a WOW! Incredible color, and good job capturing it.

Thank you for your kind comments Bruce, Brad and Isaac. It doesn't take too much effort to find the big birds, but with the sunset - as you all know - you just have to wait and see. Thanks again.

Hokie Smokes! Great shots! I have hundreds of blurred birds in flight so you have to have good capture technique to get this good.
Ship one of those sunsets to my area please. I'd have that one on my wall were I you.

Good job on the birds Jim. And did I see you complaining in another thread you don't have any?

The sunset is awesome. Being right out of the camera is even better. It's sometimes hard to tell how much some of these pictures are played with.

Thanks everyone for your kindness. Jim, I didn't upload the other 30-40 shots that were blurred; practice makes perfect, huh? Yea Skippy, my backyard birds are fewer in number than in summer. I'm new to (serious) bird watching and I thought I would see migrating birds in my yard this fall, but it didn't happen. Thanks again all.

Jim, AWESOME sunset! And the birds are excellent too! Sounds like Turkey Day was a good one for you - family...and a few shots to boot!

Jim, the sunset is awesome. I would print it big and hang it as reminder of time with family and friends.

Thank you John and Monnie, yes we had a very good weekend. I'd have to get my wife's permission to hang it on the wall Monnie; maybe I should have it printed and just hang it up!

PS I borrowed your sunset for a few days. I put it on my desktop. Lovely.

Great shots Jim. The bird shots are very good bu when I came to the sunset I was even more impressed. Great foreground interest and a very interesting cloud formation behind.

    Thanks for sharing,
    Steve

Thanks again Skippy and Steve. The sun had gone below the horizon, and was reflecting off the cloud formations and that produced the orange glow. It was quite dramatic at the time.
